Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of self-confidence on body dissatisfaction among Generation Z in Malang City. The research employed a quantitative method with a total sample of 96 female Generation Z respondents in Malang City selected using random sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires using self-confidence and body dissatisfaction scales. The data analysis technique used was multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05 with an R2 value of 0.285. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of self-confidence on body dissatisfaction among Generation Z in Malang City, indicating that the higher the self-confidence, the lower the level of body dissatisfaction experienced. The self-confidence variable explains 28.5% of the variation in body dissatisfaction. The implication is that Generation Z is encouraged to build self-confidence by developing a positive mindset toward their bodies, such as understanding the diversity of body shapes, limiting the use of social media that promotes unrealistic beauty standards, and strengthening social support from family and friends.
