Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between peer social support and academic stress among first-year female students at Universitas Merdeka Malang. Using a quantitative method with a correlational design, the study involved 100 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS version 20.0. The results showed a significant negative relationship between peer social support and academic stress (p < 0.05), with a correlation coefficient of -1.050. The β value of -0.704 indicates the extent of the influence of peer social support on academic stress, and the R2 value of 0.495 means that 49.5% of the variation in academic stress is influenced by peer social support. These findings indicate a negative relationship between peer social support and academic stress among first-year female students. It is recommended that first-year female students actively build and maintain positive social relationships with their peers. The practical implication is the importance of enhancing social support through social programs and student networking initiatives to help manage stress effectively.
