Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-regulation and academic procrastination behavior among students working on their thesis at Universitas Merdeka Malang. This research employed a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 325 respondents selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used were the self-regulation scale (α = 0.796) and the academic procrastination scale (α = 0.689). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed a regression coefficient (β) of 0.376 (p = 0.000) < 0.05, with a contribution of 14.1% (R² = 0.141). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between self-regulation and academic procrastination among thesis-writing students. This suggests that students with higher self-regulation tend to procrastinate more in completing their thesis. This study implies that students need to develop self-regulation in an adaptive and realistic manner, in order to avoid excessive self-confidence that may lead to procrastination.
