Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the intensity of gadget usage and social interaction among late adolescents. This research method uses quantitative correlational, with a total of 384 respondents. Sampling determination uses accidental sampling technique. The measurement tools used are the intensity of gadget usage scale (α=0.975) and social interaction scale (α=0.978). Data analysis technique uses simple linear regression test. The correlation coefficient result is -0.836 (p=0.000) < 0.05. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the intensity of gadget usage and social interaction of the subjects, so the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted. The negative relationship between the intensity of gadget usage and social interaction means that the higher the intensity of gadget usage, the lower the social interaction of late adolescents in Malang City. The lower the intensity of gadget usage, the higher the social interaction of late adolescents in Malang City. This research reveals that the intensity of gadget usage is a predictor of social interaction levels among late adolescents, underscoring the necessity of reducing gadget usage intensity to enable late adolescents to engage in social interactions with peers.
