Abstract

Rapid technological developments have made it easier to spread information through social media. This exposure raises the idea of comparing one's body image with others on social media. This study aims to determine the relationship between peer social support and body image in male adolescents who use social media. Using a quantitative approach method, the sample in this study was 100 male adolescents who use social media, selected using the Accidental Sampling technique. The measuring instrument of this study used a body image scale with a reliability value (α = 0.678) and a peer social support scale (α = 0.864). The results of the hypothesis test using simple linear regression analysis showed a significant relationship between the two variables (p = 0.003, ɵ = 0.290), with a contribution of the social support variable of 8.4% to body image (R2 = 0.084). This study shows new findings from previous studies related to body image problems in male adolescents, where in this study most male adolescents who use social media can create a positive body image. These results indicate that the higher the peer social support, the more positive the perception of body image of male adolescents.
