Abstract
This study explores the self-efficacy of individuals with visual impairments in using screen reader-based computers as a learning medium. Screen reader technology enables blind users to access text-based information through audio output, thus supporting independent learning. The study is motivated by the limited access visually impaired individuals have to inclusive learning media, and the importance of self-efficacy as a psychological factor that influences the successful use of technology. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed. The research subjects were three individuals with total blindness who actively use screen reader computers in their learning activities, organizational involvement, and daily life. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings reveal that self-efficacy among visually impaired individuals develops gradually through social support (from family, peers, and organizations), adaptive learning experiences, and successful completion of tasks independently. The use of screen reader computers positively contributes to increased confidence and learning autonomy. Challenges include technical difficulties, language barriers, limited access to visual descriptions, and feelings of inferiority during the initial learning phase. However, with strong internal and external motivation, the participants were able to build high self-efficacy in using
the technology. This study contributes to the development of technology-based inclusive education and recommends intensive training, the development of Indonesian-language software, and ongoing technical support for individuals with
visual impairments.
