Abstract
Long-distance marriage is one of the consequences of the work undertaken as a member of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). This affects married life and family members who must be left behind within a certain period of time. The condition of long-distance marriages can cause several problems, such as: close relationships, parenting problems, division of household chores, emotional states, and the possibility of infidelity. Based on the preliminary study, it was found that there were 82% of soldiers' wives who experienced conflict in long-distance marriages mainly caused by stress due to being left by their husbands and difficulties in communicating. This of course will affect family harmony because of limitations in terms of partner communication. Based on this, it is important for this research to be carried out immediately to find out whether interpersonal communication has a relationship with marital conflict among soldiers' wives who experience long-distance marriages. This study uses a correlational quantitative approach. The sampling technique in this study used a total sample technique of 112 subjects. The research instrument used in this study is a modification of the theory of interpersonal communication by DeVito (2011) with a reliability of 0.962 and marital conflict by Goldberg (1982) with a reliability of 0.965. The results in this study indicate that there is a strong relationship in a negative direction between interpersonal communication and marital conflict with a correlation coefficient of -0.780.
