Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between self-concept and social anxiety tendencies in Merdeka University Malang students. Social anxiety is a feeling of fear or anxiety in social situations that can hinder student interactions. Self-concept, which reflects how individuals assess themselves, is believed to influence levels of social anxiety. This research uses quantitative methods with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 100 students selected randomly. Data was collected using a self-concept scale and a social anxiety scale, then analyzed using a simple regression test. The research results showed a significant negative relationship between self-concept and social anxiety with a significance level of 0.001 (p<0.05). This means that the higher the self-concept, the lower the social anxiety, and vice versa. Self-concept contributes 21.7% to social anxiety, while the rest is influenced by external factors such as personal experience and social support. These findings emphasize the importance of developing selfconcept to reduce social anxiety in students. Psychological interventions and selfdevelopment programs can help increase students' self-confidence. Further studies with a broader scope are needed to understand other factors that influence social anxiety.
