Abstract
Academic procrastination in students is caused by various factors, one of which is the intensity of social media use. The impact of academic procrastination behavior if not addressed immediately is the delay in graduation for students, and the amount of time that is wasted without producing anything. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the intensity of social media use on academic procrastination of thesis drafting students at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Medeka Malang. This research is a non-experimental quantitative. The sample in this study was 54 students composing thesis at the Faculty of Psychology, Merdeka University, Malang. The sampling technique uses a simple random sampling technique, with a measuring instrument for the intensity scale of social media use (38 valid) and the academic procrastination scale (39 valid) in the form of a Likert scale. The results of the hypothesis using simple linear regression analysis get a F value = 56,547 with significance value of 0.000 <0.05, and the results of the effective contribution R square 0.521. It was concluded that there was an influence between the intensity of social media use on academic procrastination and the intensity of social media use had an effective contribution of 52.1% to academic procrastination.
