Abstract
Students who have been accepted at tertiary institutions are expected to complete their education on time. One of the main requirements in completing education is compiling a final project in the form of a thesis. There are obstacles that are often experienced in the process. Confidence is very important to support student success in the process of working on thesis, and this confidence is knowing academic self-efficacy. Students with high academic self-efficacy are able to work and overcome all obstacles because they see themselves as always thinking positively. Positive thinking can help generate motivation, cognitive ability, take action according to purpose, and find the best solution to problems from various perspectives. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between positive thinking and academic self efficacy in Malang State Polythechnic students who are preparing a thesis. The total population in this study were 125 students majoring in engineering at State Polytechnic of Malang. The sampling technique is saturated sampling. Measuring tools used in this research are positive thinking scale and academic self-efficacy scale. The validity test in this study used the product moment and reliability test with the Cronbach alpha formula. Hypothesis testing was carried out using the product moment formula to produce a correlation coefficient of 0.974 with a p value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The two variables have a very strong correlation, and the relationship is positive. This means that the higher the positive thinking of students who are preparing their thesis, the higher the student's academic self-efficacy, and vice versa.
