Abstract

In every human life perform various developmental tasks. One of the developmental tasks that must be carried out in early adulthood is choosing a life partner for marriage. The choice of a life partner often causes anxiety. Anxiety in choosing a life partner is an excessive feeling of fear that individuals face when their partner later does not match expectations. Anxiety in choosing a life partner is related to the emotional maturity of each individual. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between emotional maturity and anxiety in choosing a life partner. The population in this study were 154,397 early adult women in Malang City, with a sample of 270 subjects in this study. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling. The data collection technique uses an anxiety scale instrument in choosing a life partner and an emotional maturity scale. The results of the analysis or, the normality test via Kolmogorov-Smirnov obtained the results of both significance 0.45 (sig> 0.05) and the data was said to be normal. Then the results of the linearity test obtained a significance result of 0.2293 (sig> 0.05) it was said that the research data was said to be linear or there was a relationship between emotional maturity and anxiety in choosing a life partner. This study used a quantitative correlational approach with the result that the correlation coefficient was obtained with a sign value of -0.717 where the significance level was p <0.05, so the hypothesis in this study was accepted. It was concluded that there is a negative relationship between emotional maturity and anxiety in choosing a life partner. The higher the emotional maturity, the lower the anxiety in choosing a life partner, and vice versa, the lower the emotional maturity, the higher the anxiety in choosing a life partner.
