Abstract

This study intended to examine the implementation of the expressive writing therapy for outoftown Psychology students of Merdeka University Malang experiencing social anxiety propensity. In terms of methodology, the research utilized a quantitative method with one group pre-test post-test experimental design. The participants comprised 10 out of town, tertiary level students who are suffering from high levels of social anxiety as determined by the use of a purposive saturated sampling technique. In this context, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used for data analysis, and indicated a significant reduction in social anxiety tendency scores post treatment with the sample exhibiting an average reduction of 5.50 and a significance value of 0. 005 (p<0. 05). These findings suggest that the research hypothesis, which posited the effectiveness of expressive writing therapy for out-of-town psychology students at Merdeka University Malang with social anxiety tendencies, has been supported.
