Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-concept and resilience in students in Malang City who have experienced body shaming. This research employed a quantitative correlation analysis with 104 respondents. The sampling method used in this study was snowball sampling. The instruments used were the self-concept scale (α = 0.983) and the resilience scale (α = 0.988). The data analysis revealed the correlation coefficient value of 0.754 (p=0.000) < 0.05. The results indicated a positive relationship between self-concept and resilience in students who are victims of body shaming in Malang. This study provides information that the level of resilience in those students can be caused by their self-concept. Thus, it is important for students to build and strengthen a positive self-concept to be able to deal with psychological pressure, such as body shaming treatment, to adapt more, overcome pressure, and minimize the negative impact of it. Therefore, they will not lose motivation in their learning activities.
