Abstract

The phenomenon of divorce or broken home has a significant impact on the psychological development of adolescents, especially in terms of stress and emotional instability. This study aims to explore the coping strategies used by adolescents with broken home backgrounds in Malang City. A qualitative approach with phenomenological methods was applied to understand the subjective experiences of respondents. Three respondents who met the purposive sampling criteria were interviewed in depth. The results showed that broken home adolescents faced various symptoms of stress, both behaviorally, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Coping strategies applied include problemfocused coping, such as seeking social support and negotiation, and emotion-focused coping, such as distraction through positive activities. The findings underscore the importance of social support and professional assistance in supporting adolescents through the psychological impact of broken homes.
