Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of ChatGPT and the tendency to cheat among students in Malang City. The background of this study is based on the increasing use of artificial intelligence technology, particularly ChatGPT, in academic activities that have the potential to be misused for cheating. This study employs a quantitative correlational approach using incidental sampling techniques and involves 392 students from various universities in Malang City. The regression analysis results indicate a significant positive correlation between ChatGPT usage and cheating behaviour (β = 0.307 and p = 0.00 < 0.05). This positive correlation indicates that the higher the level of ChatGPT usage, the greater the tendency for students to cheat. These findings highlight the importance of education on the ethical use of AI technology in education and the need for policies to regulate its use to prevent damage to academic integrity.
