Abstract

Loneliness is one of the psychological effects often experienced by students whoare abroad. One of the factors that influences loneliness is self-compassion. Theaim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-compassion andloneliness in migrant students at Merdeka University, Malang. This research usestwo measurement scales, namely the self-compassion scale and the lonelinessscale. The sample used was purposive sampling. Data analysis uses regressionanalysis, then data collection uses a questionnaire. From the analysis results, itwas found that the R2 value was 0.579, meaning that self-compassion had amoderate influence on loneliness, namely 57.9%. It was also found that self-compassion and loneliness had a negative effect, meaning that high self-compassion was also followed by low loneliness. Therefore, it is hoped that everyoverseas student can increase self-compassion, because it can help prevent andreduce feelings of loneliness in overseas students
