Abstract

The outbreak of covid-19 has made the learning system that was originally conventional with face-to-face, shifted to online learning (in the network). This requires students, teachers, and parents to adapt and accept the situation. In these conditions, encouragement or social support from parents is needed in order to realize learning motivation in students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of parental social support on online learning motivation of SMP Negeri 16 Malang students during the covid-19 pandemic. Quantitative methods were chosen in this study, so as to produce data in the form of numbers (numeric). The measuring instrument used in this study is the Likert scale which refers to aspects of parental social support and learning motivation. The population in this study were students of class VIII and IX of SMP Negeri 16 Malang, amounting to 620, with a sample of 62 students. The results of the study from 62 respondents showed that the level of parental social support and learning motivation was in the medium
category. The results showed a significance value (p) of 0.000 (p < 0.05), these results indicate that the hypothesis in this study is accepted, namely that there is an influence between parental social support on online learning motivation of SMP Negeri 16 Malang students during the covid-19 pandemic. . Meanwhile, the results of the linear regression test found the R square value of 0.558, so that the influence of parental social support on learning motivation was 55.8%.
