Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of social media, especially TikTok, which has become a means of political campaigning and democracy for students. The use of social media in student campaigns has several challenges.. At the same time, various types of content are filled on social media platforms to try to attract attention and influence public opinion. Despite being a good method to spread information, there are some challenges that arise such as risks to data privacy and security, and the spread of inaccurate or misleading information.
This study aims to determine the correlation between campaigns through TikTok and democratic behavior in undergraduate students majoring in Public Administration at Merdeka University Malang. This research is expected to be useful as information and reference for the government and society, as well as contributing to science in the fields of public administration and political science.
This research uses correlational quantitative research methods with a quantitative approach. The research location is Merdeka University Malang. The research population is undergraduate students majoring in Public Administration at Merdeka University of Malang class of 2020-2023 as many as 120 respondents. The research sample was determined using the Solvin formula and obtained 120 respondents. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and documentation. The research instrument used a questionnaire with a Likert Scale of five answer options.
The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between the campaign through TikTok and democratic behavior in students majoring in S1 Public Administration at Merdeka University Malang. Based on the processed primary data, there is a significant correlation between the campaign through the TikTok application and democratic behavior in undergraduate students of the Public Administration study program at Merdeka University of Malang, Class of 2020-2023, which is between 0.806 to 0.906 with a moderate category. There are also several obstacles faced by undergraduate students majoring in Public Administration at Merdeka University Malang in capturing and understanding information about political campaigns on social media (TikTok). In addition, most students are still apathetic about democratic events and democratic functions.
