Abstract

Wireless internet service is a necessity for users who are in public facility areas. However, the number of users connected to the service is a problem with the quality of service, either in the form of frequent disconnections, buffering, the signal is weak and unstable. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Information Technology, Merdeka University, Malang, which used an Access Point device as a wireless internet device. Access Point is a hardware wireless local area network for sending and receiving data. Connection instability and low internet speed can occur because the Access Point device is used for too long. One of the ways to optimize the network performance of the Faculty of Information Technology Laboratory, Merdeka University, Malang is to use a supporting device for the Totolink AC1200 A720R hotspot network. Totolink AC1200 A720R is a dual band wireless signal transmitter which has signal frequency support at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, can support hotspot networks to get wider and maximum internet signal coverage, and can be configured like a router according to user needs. This research can provide ideas, suggestions and methods for optimizing internet network systems in the Information Technology Faculty Laboratory. The use of the Totolink AC1200 A720R Access Point is later expected to improve internet network performance both in terms of devices and internet access for users.
