Abstract

Cinderella is one of the famous stories that was inspired by the surrounding social
impression. It is undeniable that the existing clichés focus on women characters
who end happily with the help of men. It assists Dowling consideration in naming
the phenomenon she found which is in harmony, namely the Cinderella Complex.
This Final Report is intended to gain an understanding of why Cinderella
Complex Syndrome becomes a phenomenon about women, generally from
society's perspective then describing how this syndrome affects the motivation of
female students, particularly in studying. The discussion will be divided into five
parts. It starts with defining syndromes and naming unique syndromes like using
Disney characters. Next, it is about the Cinderella story becoming a phenomenon
with gender issues. Then it discusses specifically the Cinderella Complex theory
by Dowling. It continues with an explanation about how the theory describes the
motivation of female students. After that, it is a description of those that impact
the studying. It seems that women of all ages, including female students, always
strive to achieve social views on the labels of 'good girl', 'good student', and 'good
wife' even though this sacrifices motivation to be independent. This way of
thinking surely impacts their motivation in studying.
