Abstract

Final year students in Malang City are in a transitional phase that makes them vulnerable to quarter life crisis due to academic pressure, future uncertainty, and social demands. This study aims to examine the influence of resilience and optimism on quarter life crisis among final year students in Malang City. The research used a quantitative approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 final year student respondents selected using incidental sampling. The measurement instruments included the Resilience Scale (α = 0.885), the Optimism Scale (α = 0.961), and the Quarter Life Crisis Scale (α = 0.944). Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the regression coefficient (β) for resilience was 0.412 (sig = 0.000) < 0.05, and for optimism was 0.802 (sig = 0.000) < 0.05, with a contribution of 88.2% (R2 = 0.882). These findings indicate that resilience and optimism together have a positive and significant influence on quarter life crisis, with optimism having a more dominant effect than resilience in explaining its variability. Resilience and optimism account for 88.2% of the influence on quarter life crisis, with the remaining percentage influenced by factors outside the model. The results suggest that the higher the levels of resilience and optimism among students, the greater their tendency to experience quarter life crisis. This study provides new insights into the psychological dynamics of final year students and encourages further investigation into mediating or moderating factors in this relationship.
