Abstract

This study aims to understand the interpersonal relationship between children and parents after divorce in Kelurahan Pisang Candi, Malang City. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, involving three children aged 12–18 years from divorced families. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results of the study indicate that post-divorce interpersonal relationships between children and parents are influenced by several factors, including communication patterns, emotional presence, openness in expressing feelings, and social support. Each respondent showed different emotional and social responses to their parents’ divorce. Children who received open communication and emotional support from both parents were more likely to adapt and build healthy interpersonal relationships. This study illustrates that interpersonal relationships between children and parents after divorce do not always deteriorate, but are significantly influenced by the level of involvement and quality of interaction between both parties.
