Abstract

The high prevalence of aggressive behavior among adolescents is a major concern in developmental psychology, particularly in Malang City where youth violence cases are notably high. This study aims to identify the relationship between authoritarian parenting and the level of aggressiveness among adolescents in Malang City. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A total of 100 adolescents (58% female, 42% male; aged 12–18 years) were selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were the authoritarian parenting scale (α = 0.943) and the aggressiveness scale (α = 0.941). Simple linear regression analysis showed that authoritarian parenting had a positive and significant relationship with adolescent aggressiveness (β = 0.831), contributing 50.2% to the variance in aggressiveness (R2 = 0.691). Most respondents were categorized as having high authoritarian parenting (63%) and moderate aggressiveness (63%). These findings highlight the importance of parenting interventions and family education to reduce aggressive behavior among adolescents.
