Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of fatherlessness on emotion regulation in adolescents in South Ternate City. Fatherlessness is defined as the absence of a father, either physically or emotionally, due to factors such as divorce, death, or lack of involvement in parenting. Emotion regulation refers to the individual's ability to recognize, understand, and manage their emotions in a healthy and adaptive way. This research uses a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression method. The number of respondents was 299 adolescents who experienced fatherlessness, selected using incidental sampling technique. The instruments used were the fatherlessness scale and the emotion regulation scale. The analysis results showed a significance value of 0.130 (p > 0.05), indicating that there is no significant influence between fatherlessness and emotion regulation. Thus, it can be concluded that the absence of a father figure does not directly affect adolescents' emotion regulation. This study also suggests that other factors, such as maternal support, social environment, and individual coping strategies, may play a more dominant role.
