Abstract

Adolescents with low attachment to single parents can lower their level of self-esteem. This research aims to determine the influence of parental attachment on self-esteem in teenagers with single parents in Malang City. This research uses quantitative methods. Sampling used a non-probability sampling method accompanied by accidental sampling techniques to obtain a total of 100 samples of teenagers with single parents in Malang City. The data was collected using a questionnaire based on the theories of Armseden, Greenberg and Coopersmith. The hypothesis in this research was accepted by getting a significance value of 0.01 < 0.05. The results also found that parental attachment to the self-esteem of teenagers with single parents in Malang City was 23.4%, the remaining 76.6% was influenced by other factors. The implication that can be applied is that in forming educational policies parents can be given knowledge about the influence of parental attachment on the psychology of adolescent development in order to improve the standard of living of adolescents for the better and fulfill the need for closeness with single parents.
