Abstract

Writing a thesis requires students to be able to find problem solving and make decisions and regulate themselves. This cannot be realized if students do not recognize and regulate emotions through the process of emotion regulation. Emotion regulation is influenced by several factors, one of which is family. Family members who have closeness and openness can help individuals to express their emotions. This study aims to determine the effect of family functioning on student emotion regulation. This study uses quantitative methods with Accidental Sampling techniques combined with Snowball Sampling. The subjects in this study were 93 overseas students who compiled a thesis. The data collection process uses a Likert scale instrument of family functioning and emotion regulation. The data analysis technique uses a simple linear regression test and the data has a normal and linear distribution. The results showed a positive influence between family functioning on student emotional regulation (p 0.492 < sig. 0.05). A healthy and well-functioning family can provide emotional support, communication, and positive parenting, all of which contribute to the development of good emotion regulation abilities in college students.
