Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between social comparison and dissatisfaction with body shape in adolescent female Instagram users. This research method uses a correlational quantitative approach, with a total of 385 respondents. Sampling determination using non-probabilty sampling technique with purposive sampling method. The measuring instruments used were the social compariso n scale (α=0.950) and the body shape dissatisfaction scale (α=0.966). The data analysis technique uses Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results of data analysis show that the correlation coefficient value is 0.001 (p=0.000) <0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between social comparison and dissatisfaction with body shape in adolescent girls who use Instagram. This study makes an important contribution in supporting the conclusion that social comparison is one of the factors that influence increased body shape dissatisfaction, particularly among adolescent girls who use Instagram. These results emphasize the urgency of the need for interventions to minimize the negative impact of body shape dissatisfaction.
