Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between family support and depression tendencies in final year students in Malang City. This research method uses quantitative correlation with the number of respondents amounting to 100 respondents. Determination of sampling using accidental sampling technique. The measuring instrument used was the family support scale (α = 0.809) and the depression tendency scale (α = 0.915). Data analysis techniques using simple linear regression. The results of data analysis showed a regression coefficient (β) of -0.685 (p=0.000) <0.05, with a contribution of 46% (R2= 0.46). Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a negative relationship between family support and the tendency of depression in final year students in Malang City, in the sense that the higher the family support, the lower the tendency of depression experienced by final year students, and vice versa with family support affecting depressive tendencies, while the rest is influenced by other factors. This study can provide information that family support has an influence on the tendency of depression of final year students, so it is necessary to develop an understanding of family support which is very important for final year students in undergoing their academic demands.
