Abstract

The convenience of shopping is one significant reason why individuals have shifted to online shopping using social media. This study aims to empirically examine the influence of fear of missing out (FoMO) on impulsive buying behavior among early adulthood individuals using Shopee PayLater. This research uses a quantitative correlational approach. The research subjects involved 100 respondents aged 18 to 40 years who actively use Shopee PayLater, selected using purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used the Impulsive Buying Scale with a reliability score of 0.926 and the FoMO Scale with a reliability score of 0.964. Data collection was carried out online. The results, analyzed using simple linear regression, show a significant influence of fear of missing out on impulsive buying. Based on the coefficient of determination (R Square) test, the fear of missing out variable contributes 56.4% to the tendency of impulsive buying behavior among early adulthood individuals using Shopee PayLater. These findings underline the importance of understanding FoMO as one of the factors influencing purchasing decisions.
