Abstract

The absence of a father in the family is an issue that affects an individual's psychological development, especially during emerging adulthood, a period marked by the pursuit of identity and independence. This study aims to describe the psychological dynamics of individuals in emerging adulthood who have experienced fatherlessness. A qualitative method with a phenomenological design was used, involving in-depth interviews with three participants who had lost their father either physically or emotionally. The results indicate that fatherlessness impacts emotional, cognitive, and social aspects, such as feelings of loss, low selfconfidence, and difficulties in forming interpersonal relationships. However, the participants demonstrated adaptive efforts through various coping strategies and support from substitute figures. This study contributes to the understanding of the psychological impact of fatherlessness and highlights the importance of emotional support in the developmental process of individuals in early adulthood.
