Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of body shaming on self-acceptance in young adult women from 18 to 25 years old in Malang city. This study is an explanatory research using quantitative research design. Scale measurements of body shaming and self-acceptance were carried out using a Likert scale questionnaire. The results of simple linear regression analysis showed that the regression model built had an F value of 39.686 and a significance value (Sig.) of 0.000 (< 0.05). This indicates a significant influence between the variables of body shaming and self-acceptance. The R value of -0.930 indicates a very strong and significant negative relationship between body shaming (X) and self-acceptance (Y) where the higher body shaming is, the lower self-acceptance is, vice versa. In addition, the high R² value, which is 0.865, indicates that body shaming affects selfacceptance by 86.5%, while the rest is influenced by other factors. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that there is a significant negative relationship between body shaming and self-acceptance in young adult women in Malang city.
