Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between hope and anxiety in choosing a life partner among emerging adults from broken home backgrounds in Malang City. This research employed a quantitative correlational method with a total of 385 respondents. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling. The instruments used were the hope scale (α = 0.857) and the anxiety scale (α = 0.864). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results of the data analysis showed a correlation coefficient of -0.611 (p = 0.000) < 0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a negative relationship between hope and anxiety in choosing a life partner among emerging adults from broken home backgrounds in Malang City. This study provides information that hope can predict the level of anxiety in choosing a life partner among emerging adults with broken home backgrounds. Therefore, there is a need to enhance hope through hope therapy to foster positive expectations in emerging adults experiencing anxiety related to choosing a life partner due to their broken home background. The results of this study emphasize the importance of enhancing hope as a protective factor against anxiety in choosing a life partner among emerging adults from broken home backgrounds.
