Abstract

According to the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024, the majority, more than 60% of employees in the formal sector, stated they experienced high levels of stress. The main factors causing stress are excessive workload, unrealistic targets, and limited rest time. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between workload and job stress levels in employees in a broader scope. A quantitative approach using the correlation method was applied. Because the population was unknown, the researcher utilized a convenience sampling approach using the Role Overload Scale (ROS) and Job Stress Survey (JSS) instruments. The subjects in this study consisted of 385 respondents. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.540 indicates that 54% of the variation in job stress can be explained by workload. A significance value (p-value) of 0.000 (<0.05) indicates that the relationship between workload and job stress is statistically significant. The results indicate that high workload contributes significantly to increased employee job stress, thus strengthening evidence that workload is a dominant factor triggering stress in the workplace.
