Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between father involvement and emotion regulation strategies in emerging adulthood. This study uses correlational quantitative research methods. The sampling technique used are accidental sampling and snowball sampling involving 385 people aged 18-25 years. The scale used is the emotional regulation questionnaire (ERQ) with cognitive reappraisal dimensions (α = 0.792) and expressive suppression dimensions (α = 0.785) and father involvement scale (α = 0.922). The data analysis technique used Pearson correlation. The results of data analysis showed a significant positive relationship between father involvement and cognitive reappraisal strategy (r = 0.142, p = 0.005 < 0.05) thus accepting the first hypothesis, and there is a significant positive relationship between father involvement and expressive suppression strategy (r = 0.168, p = 0.001 < 0.05) thus accepting the second hypothesis. The results of this study support the conclusion that father involvement has a relationship with emotion regulation strategies in emerging adulthood, so that it can support children in using adaptive emotion regulation strategies such as cognitive reappraisal.
