Abstract

Divorce and infidelity are common social phenomena in Indonesia. This reflects that divorce and infidelity are indicators of low levels of marital satisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between gender equality and marital satisfaction among wives. The research employs a quantitative method with a correlational approach, involving 400 women (wives) selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a gender egalitarian role scale and a marital satisfaction scale, both of which have been tested for validity and reliability. Analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The results showed an unstandardized regression coefficient (B) of 0.62, a t-value of 1.426, and a significance level (p) of 0.155 (> 0.05), indicating that there is no statistically significant relationship between gender equality and marital satisfaction. The coefficient of determination (R²) was only 0.5%, showing that the influence is very small and not strong enough. These findings suggest that gender equality is not always directly related to marital satisfaction. This implies the need to consider other more influential factors and encourages a more contextual approach in understanding the dynamics of gender roles in marriage.
