Abstract

Adolescent are one group that tends to behave consumptively. This consumptive behavior is also present in the Korean Pop fan community because fans buy merchandise from their favorite idols (Korean Pop artists) based on emotional factors. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of self-control on consumptive behavior among teenage Korean Pop fans. This research uses a correlational quantitative approach. This study using purposive sampling as sampling technique. The sample for this research was 100 female adolescent Korean Pop fans. The collecting data method for this research by using self- control scale and consumptive behavior scale instrument with Likert scale model. Data Analysis in this study was carried out by testing hypotheses using simple linear regression analysis. The results of this research were significance score of p=0.000 (p<0.05) with an R Square value of 0.180 which means that thisresearch hypothesis is accepted and the effective contribution which given by self-control variable is 18% towards consumptive behavior variable. Advices given by researchers to female adolescent Korean Pop fans are reduce consumptive behavior by increasing self-control by increasing self-discipline, non-impulsive behavior, healthy habits, self-regulation and self-reliability. Suggestionsfor future researchers such as further researches are expected to use population scope that is not limited to one age group, specific to one particular fandom (fan group) in Korean Pop and raise other factors that effect consumptive behavior which were not raised in this research.
