Abstract

Self-regulation is a psychological behavior that influences FoMO. FoMO is a phenomenon where individuals fear missing valuable moments and experiencing enjoyable events others are involved in, particularly when not participating in specific activities. High FoMO has negative impacts on students' productivity, learning motivation, academic motivation, emotional states, and even depression. This research aims to explore the influence of self-regulation on FoMO among female college students using social media at Universitas Merdeka Malang. The study included a sample of 100 female college students who use social media, selected through purposive sampling. The measurement instruments consisted of self-regulation and fear of missing out scales in the form of Likert scales. The self-regulation scale was created based on aspects of self-regulation behavior, while the fear of missing out scale was developed from aspects of FoMO behavior. The analysis method employed was simple linear regression. The results of the hypothesis test through simple linear regression analysis indicated a significance value of 0.018 < 0.05 with a negative outcome. Hence, it can be concluded that there is an influence of self-regulation on fear of missing out. A higher level of self-regulation correlates with a lower level of fear of missing out and vice versa.
