Abstract
Parenting has an important role in the social and emotional development of adolescents, including in decision-making skills when choosing friends. This study aims to analyze the influence of authoritarian parenting on decision-making ability in choosing friends in junior high school students. Authoritarian parenting, which is characterized by strict control, rigid rules, and a lack of two-way communication, can have an impact on children's independence and confidence in making their social choices. The ability to make decisions in choosing friends is a way to choose and determine the choice of various alternative options about who someone will later do activities together and teach to socialize with others. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of authoritarian parenting on decision-making ability in choosing friends in junior high school students. The research method used was quantitative with a data collection technique, namely accidental sampling using a questionnaire distributed to 100 respondents of junior high school students in Malang City. The measuring tools used were an authoritarian parenting scale with a reliability of 0.886 and a scale of decisionmaking ability in choosing friends with a reliability of 0.845. The results of the study based on a simple linear regression test showed a score of 0.000 which means that authoritarian parenting has an influence on decision-making ability in choosing friends and contributes 14.2%. In order for children to improve their decision-making skills in choosing friends, parents should reduce the authoritarian parenting style given so that children can learn to make their own decisions.
