Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and financial anxiety among freelance workers in Malang City. Freelancers are considered a vulnerable group due to their unstable income, which puts them at greater risk of experiencing financial anxiety. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach with a total of 147 respondents selected using incidental sampling techniques. The instruments used in this study were the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12) (α = 0.890) and the Financial Anxiety Scale (FAS) α = 0.925). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicated a positive and significant relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and financial anxiety (r² = 0.64, p < 0.01). The higher an individual's intolerance of uncertainty, the higher their level of financial anxiety. The study also found that marital status had a significant effect on financial anxiety, whereas gender did not show a statistically significant difference. These findings imply that cognitive aspects such as intolerance of uncertainty should be considered in efforts to manage financial anxiety, particularly among freelance populations.
