Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between permissive parenting and hedonistic lifestyle in adolescents. This study used a quantitative correlational method, with 387 respondents. The sampling technique was accidental sampling. The measuring instruments used were the permissive parenting scale (α = 0.935) and the hedonistic lifestyle scale (α = 0.929). The data analysis technique used simple regression analysis. The results of the analysis showed a regression coefficient value of 0.862 (p = 0.000) <0.05. The coefficient of determination (R 2) value of 0.74 indicated that permissive parenting contributed 74% to the hedonistic lifestyle in adolescents. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant positive relationship between permissive parenting and hedonistic lifestyle in adolescents. This study provides information that the higher the permissive parenting pattern received by adolescents, the higher their tendency to live a hedonistic lifestyle. These findings can serve as a basis for parents, teachers, and school counselors in developing more balanced parenting styles to foster self-control and character in adolescents.
