Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between selfcompassion and anxiety in choosing a life partner among emerging adults with a broken home background domiciled in Malang City. This research employed a correlational quantitative method with a total of 385 participants selected using the snowball sampling technique. The instruments used were the self-compassion scale (α = 0.887) and the anxiety in choosing a life partner scale (α = 0.864). Data analysis showed a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and anxiety in choosing a life partner, with a significance value of p = 0.000 < 0.05. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the higher the level of selfcompassion an individual possesses, the lower the level of anxiety in choosing a life partner. This study provides evidence that self-compassion can serve as a protective factor in dealing with anxiety about choosing a life partner, particularly among emerging adults from broken home backgrounds. Therefore, it is important for individuals to develop self-compassion as part of a coping mechanism in building healthy and positive relationships during early adulthood.
