Abstract

This study explores the emotion regulation strategies of convicted murder inmates in coping with psychological stress in prison. Inmates often face emotional stress, such as guilt, regret, and social anxiety due to societal stigma. The study aims to understand the emotion regulation strategies used by inmates to overcome these challenges. A qualitative approach using a case study method was used to collect data through semi-structured interviews and observations. The results indicate that inmates manage negative emotions through self-reflection, prayer, and social support. These strategies help them reduce stress and increase their emotional self-awareness. External factors, such as relationships with prison officers and family support, also influence the effectiveness of emotion regulation. These findings highlight the importance of emotion regulation in the rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates. This study provides new insights into the dynamics of inmate emotions and offers practical contributions to more humane correctional management.
