Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between democratic parenting styles and sibling rivalry in adolescents. This research method uses a quantitative correlational approach, with 385 adolescents as respondents. The sampling technique used was incidental sampling. The measuring instruments used were the democratic parenting scale (α = 0.869) and the sibling rivalry scale (α = 0.798). The data analysis technique used simple linear regression. The results of the data analysis showed a correlation coefficient value of -0.136 (p = 0.003) <0.05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a negative relationship between democratic parenting styles and sibling rivalry in adolescents. This means that the higher the democratic parenting style, the lower the sibling rivalry that occurs. This study provides information on the importance of democratic parenting styles in minimizing sibling rivalry, thus fostering harmonious relationships between siblings.
