Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between resilience and the stress of parenting mothers who have children with special needs in Malang City. This research method uses quantitative correlation with 125 respondents. Sample determination using snowball sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the parental stress index-short form scale (α=0,907) and a resilience scale (α=0,771). The data analysis technique used simple linear regression. The results of data analysis showed a significance value of 0,001 <0,05. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between resilience and the stress of parenting mothers who have children with special needs. The higher the resilience, the lower the parenting stress of mothers who have children with special needs, and vice versa, the lower the resilience, the higher the parenting stress of mothers who have children with special needs. The R-Square value shows 0,316 so it is known that the resilience variable is able to influence the parenting stress variable by 31,6%. With this research, it can further expand the theory that resilience is a protective factor in dealing with stress, especially in caring for children with special needs.
