Abstract

Job stress is a negative condition that interferes with the physiology, psychology and behavior of a midwife. Job stress is related to emotional intelligence. Someone with high emotional intelligence can manage and place emotions so that they have the ability to survive in stressful situations. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between emotional intelligence and work stress for midwives at the Central Lombok District Health Center. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational model. The sample of this research is 61 people. The sampling technique is purposive sampling with a minimum working period of 2 years. The measurements in this study used an emotional intelligence scale with a value of reliability=0.961 and a work stress scale with a value of reliability=0.963. Data analysis used the Pearson Correlation test. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and work stress obtained by a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) with a negative relationship direction obtained from a value of r = -0.732 meaning that the lower the emotional intelligence, the higher the work stress experienced.
