Abstract

Adolescents often engage in behaviors that tend to be risky risk-taking behavior), both positive and negative risks. The closeness of adolescents with peers is a priority for adolescents. One of the factors that influence risk-taking behavior is peer pressure. This study aims to determine the effect of peer pressure on risk-taking behavior in adolescents. This research is a quantitative study and the data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 71 respondents as subjects. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The criteria in this study were subjects with an age range of 12-14 years. The research instruments were Peer Pressure Inventory (PPI) scale and Risk-Taking Behavior scale which were analyzed using simple regression analysis and the results show that regression coefficient was 0.335 with a p value of 0.004 (p <0.05). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant influence of peer pressure on risk-taking behavior in adolescents, which means that the higher the peer pressure felt by the subject, the higher the level of risk-taking behavior occurs in adolescents and vice versa. The effective contribution of peer pressure to risk-taking behavior is 11.2% and the remaining 88.8% is influenced by other factors not examined.
