Abstract
This study aims to examine the importance of role models for orphaned university students in developing academic and personal motivation. Orphaned university students often face significant emotional and social challenges, which can affect their academic performance and psychological well-being. Positive role models can provide the inspiration, support and guidance needed to overcome these barriers. Through a qualitative method with in- depth interviews with ten orphaned university students, this study found that the presence of role models significantly contributed to increased self-confidence, academic aspirations, and resilience in the face of adversity. In addition, role models assist students in forming a positive self-identity and provide concrete examples of how to overcome life's challenges. The results of this study suggest that higher education institutions need to develop mentoring and support programs that involve role models from various backgrounds to help orphaned students reach their full potential. The implications of this study underscore the importance of policies and programs that support the presence of role models in the academic environment
