Abstract

The tendency of social media addiction is a situation in which a person uses social media excessively with the aim of getting pleasure from various information available on the platform. The phenomenon of social media addiction trends has occurred among students, this is proven based on the results of previous research. This study aims to find out whether there is a relationship between self-control and the tendency to become addicted to social media. This study uses a quantitative approach with data analysis techniques used to test the hypothesis in this study is a correlation method measured by the self-control scale put forward by Tangney et al and social media addiction proposed by Tutgun-Ünal & Deniz. In this study, it was found that there was a negative relationship between self-control and social media addiction tendencies, namely the higher self-control, the lower the social media addiction tendency and vice versa, this was evidenced by the correlation test, which was the sig value was smaller than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05).
