Abstract

The phenomenon of smoking behavior among early adolescents, particularly male junior high school students, is becoming increasingly concerning as the number of novice smokers in Indonesia rises. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between peer conformity and smoking intensity among early adolescent male students at SMPN 5 Blitar City. The sample was determined using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique, consisting of 78 students. Data collection instruments included a peer conformity scale with a reliability of 0.905 and a smoking intensity scale with a reliability of 0.896, and the hypothesis was tested using regression analysis. The results showed that peer conformity influenced smoking intensity by 13.4%. It can thus be concluded that there is a significant negative relationship between peer conformity and smoking intensity among early adolescent male students at SMPN 5 Blitar City. This study contributes to strengthening theory and serves as additional literature on the role of peer conformity, which is not only a risk factor but also a potential source for interventio.
