Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parental attachment and emotional regulation in students of MTs Al-Arif Gempol. This research method uses a quantitative research design with a correlational approach, with a total of 95 respondents. Determination of sampling using nonprobability sampling technique with saturated sampling type. The measuring instruments used were the parental attachment scale (α = 0.630), cognitive reappraisal (α = 0.755), and expressive suppression (α = 0.753). The data analysis technique used Spearman's rho. The results of the hypothesis test showed a correlation coefficient value between parental attachment and the cognitive reappraisal emotion regulation strategy p = 0.021 <0.05 with a value of rs = 0.656. Parental attachment affects the cognitive reappraisal emotion regulation strategy by 65.6%. While the results of the correlation coefficient between parental attachment and the expressive suppression emotion regulation strategy p = 0.01 <0.05 with a value of rs = 0.344. Parental attachment affects the emotional regulation strategy of expressive suppression by 34.4%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between parental attachment and emotional regulation in MTs Al-Arif Gempol students. Implications for efforts to improve emotional regulation in MTs students in Gempol. This effort involves parents to be able to build a supportive atmosphere by accompanying students when they are seeking protection, comfort, and support from their parents, so that they can regulate their emotions well.
